About IndigiNerds

Generations Of Indigenous Scholars: Mentorship, Support, and Inspiration.

IndigiNerds is an eight-week intensive research training program hosted by the McMaster Indigenous Research Institute. Indigenous undergraduate students from universities across Canada, who are interested in research and curious about graduate school are eligible to participate. Participants take part in workshops and Indigenous Knowledge programming while contributing as research scholars under the supervision of a McMaster faculty member.

Indigenous undergraduate students from across Turtle Island are invited to apply for a summer initiative – the IndigiNerds summer program (formerly the Indigenous Undergraduate Summer Research Scholars program)– that gives them a taste of graduate student life at McMaster University. Providing academic, social and cultural activities, IndigiNerds facilitates mentorship and guidance enabling Indigenous undergraduates to make informed choices in preparing for graduate studies.

In the summer of 2021, Victoria Bomberry conducted interviews with outgoing IUSRS students and supervisors. Victoria’s research and final report provides invaluable insight into the summer program, highlighting strengths and spaces for growth. As a research Institute that values accountability, MIRI is pleased to share this final report with its McMaster partners, community members, students, and stakeholders.     PDF: Final Report IUSRS 2021
